i just realized my memory card for my camera was in my laptop for the whole convention. and i was taking photos with no card.

So instead of listening to the teacher rambling in English class about some project that’s due in a week that’s probably really important, I decided to make a list of things I have learned from this weekend at Anime North, and conventions in gerneral. It was supposed to be only 10 things, but….I got carried away.
25 THINGS I HAVE LEARNED FROM CONVENTIONS:
- Long sleeved and elaborately heavy cosplays are probably not a good idea in summer conventions.
- Water is the best thing ever. DRINK IT LIKE IT’S THE LAST THING YOU WILL DRINK.
- Make sure you have a map of the convention; you don’t want to get lost.
- Empty your memory card from your phone and/or camera every day.
- Bring a change of clothes.
- Impromptu photoshoots/ roleplays are amazing.
- Bring at least $100 a day. You don’t want to see something amazing and have no money left.
- Don’t be afraid to ask people for photos.
- Don’t justify anything you buy/want to buy. If you want it (and have enough money), BUY IT.
- Shade on a really hot day is like finding water in the desert: impossible to find, but really worth it.
- Getting a hotel is probably a good idea if you’re going all weekend.
- Backpacks are not really ideal, if you don’t want really sore shoulders the following week.
- Suggestive photoshoots/roleplays are hilarious.
- Buy things as you see them; they might not be there when you come back later.
- Pairing photos are rare, but absolutely amazing.
- It’s hard to see with fake eyelashes.
- There’s always that one thing that you buy that makes your convention, because it’s just so amazingly awesome that you can’t believe you actually got it.
- Don’t regret what you buy; it must have been awesome at the time.
- Friends are amazing to go to conventions with. It’s even better if you are all a cosplay group and do ridiculous shots together.
- It’s the experience that makes the con.
- Bring food. Don’t waste your money and time with the line-ups at restaurants.
- Always have your camera ready and charged. Same with cellphones.
- If you’re going with friends, make sure everyone has a cellphone, because it’s inevitable that you’re all going to separate and lose each other.
- It doesn’t matter if your cosplay sucks, or is amazing; as long as you have fun, that’s all that counts.
- Start your cosplays EARLY!!! (don’t procrastinate!) SERIOUSLY.
